How endings lead to fresh beginnings
Change is an inevitable and constant part of life. We need it for a fulfilling life.
- moving to a new city
- changing careers
- ending a relationship
- technological advancements
- global crises
Change can be both exciting and unsettling.
And most people don’t like it. We don’t like uncertainty.
So, we try to stay in our comfortable bubble of:
- a steady 9–5 job
- a steady income
- a house in the neighborhood where we grew up, near to the parents
- the same relationships since school
- always voting for the same political party
- watching the same news and series every evening
- eating the same favorite dishes every day
This is your comfort zone. You are okay with your life. You accept the downsides, and you are jealous when someone is moving ahead.
Do you want to live your life like that for more than 60 years?
Most people live like that.
It sounds negative, but there is a good point coming: if you want to rise above and change, it’s easy because 99% of people are not doing it!
Life is change.
And if you don’t embrace it, you will not be prepared for it and cannot catch up with others anymore.
It’s like the generation of our parents: they didn’t grow up with phones. They had to learn it and embrace the change, or else they would be stuck in the time before phones.
Digitalization is happening.
“Trust the wait. Embrace the uncertainty. Enjoy the beauty of becoming. When nothing is certain, anything is possible.”
— Mandy Hale
Why Do We Fear the Unknown?
The uncertainty of the future is scary for us. It worries us.
And it can hold us back from taking risks and enjoying life.
I don’t know about you, but I’m a little control freak. I want to know what happens next, I make plans and I write everything in my calendar.
And I’ve spent a lot of time worrying about the unknown future.
But then I read one thought that changed my view of life:
You will only live in this present, this day. You will never live in the past or in the future. You only always have this day.
It blew my mind.
The future will always be unknown. Spending time worrying about it is a waste of time in the present.
What we can do is:
- accept the unknown
- plan ahead as much as we can
- and then enjoy and work in the present
“The challenge of the unknown future is so much more exciting than the stories of the accomplished past.”
— Simon Sinek
Change Is the Opportunity For a Fulfilling Life
Life is change. And the unknown future will be different.
99% of people don’t like change. They want to stay in their comfort zone.
But in there, you will not grow or have new experiences.
Changes are opportunities for adventure and growth.
You re-program your mindset with positive thinking, and you will not see change as the enemy anymore.
If you want to go further, you can also plan ahead and prepare for changes and adventures.
For example, I know that in the next few years, I’m gonna have children. I’m preparing for the change by writing those words:
- I’m diversifying my income by starting to write online
- I’m finishing my Master’s next year
- I’m investing in my future
- I’m accepting challenges to grow as a person mentally and emotionally
- I’m exercising regularly and eating nutritious foods to stay healthy
All of those points are common sense for a person in their 20s to grow and improve, but I have a goal and a purpose.
“I am going into an unknown future, but I’m still all here, and still while there’s life, there’s hope”
— John Lennon
Coming back to change:
Change Is Inevitable
Embrace it! Prepare for it!
Take it as an opportunity to grow and improve. Life without change is boring and, in the end, full of things you didn’t do.
Regret is gonna be the worst feeling at the end of your life if you don’t get out there now to embrace change.
Challenge yourself to take risks and to make changes on purpose!
For example, I’m doing a semester abroad currently to get myself out there.
Also accept changes that make you sad in the moment: closing doors of opportunities or ending relationships.
If one door closes, a lot of new ones open.
Be aware to not overdo yourself by trying to take every opportunity. You don’t have to. A good balance is the best way to live a happy life.
Conclusion
Change can be good or bad.
It’s your decision how you take it.
Start today to re-program your mindset to see opportunities and not problems.
Future-proof your mind by accepting the changes.
Prepare for them! Embrace them!
“We can’t be afraid of change. You may feel very secure in the pond that you are in, but if you never venture out of it, you will never know that there is such a thing as an ocean, a sea.”
— C. Joybell C.
