How I Found My Motivation Again By Picturing Why I’m Doing This

Two weeks ago a new semester started but it was hard to get motivated again. I liked to watch series more than doing homework for my studies.

I needed to find my motivation again.

I meditated and refocused on the goals I want to achieve in my life and what I have to do to get there. Even though not all steps to my goal are clear yet, I know what I can do now to get closer to it.

So I pictured and drew my life goal and the life I want to live. If I want to get there, I have to stand up and keep going with my studies.

Picturing my life goal helped me a lot.

Especially thinking about the person I need to be to fit in this picture. What would my future me do now?

Always ask that question when you’re struggling with a lack of motivation or resistance.

Fake it till you make it.

– Mary Kay Ash

This quote doesn’t mean that you have to be fake now. It means that you should behave like the person who already achieved this goal.

Because to achieve a certain goal you have to grow as a person to get there and by already behaving like this person you will become this person.

Draw the picture of your goal in your mind with as many details as possible, so that it feels more alive.

And then remember and feel this picture every day in the morning and before going to bed. Think about this picture and this person in this picture every time you struggle with a lack of motivation.

If you do this thing now, you won’t need to do it later.

What also helped me a lot this week is that I had a group project. And that’s what gets me accountable. Because I don’t want to appear as a person who doesn’t do anything but I want to do something for this project and help others.

So create something or tell somebody to keep you accountable!
